Is Matthew 2 False or Is it True?

The common theme of many claims made by Christian apologists is that Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies contained in the (Christian) “Old Testament”, and various passages from the New Testament are cited as evidence of the alleged fulfillments.

The second chapter in the Gospel of Matthew contains four such accounts which, according to their author, were foretold in the Hebrew Bible and fulfilled by Jesus.

To test the validity of these claims, this article compares those four claimed fulfillment accounts against their respective claimed prophetic statement in the Hebrew Bible.  It proves that, under scrutiny, the claimed prophetic fulfillments attributed to this chapter do not survive.  In other words, the claims made by the author of Matthew 2 do not correspond to what the Hebrew Bible teaches.

Several years ago I gave lessons online, for which I prepared lesson notes using Microsoft PowerPoint. Those lessons covered many, but not all, of the articles that are published on this blog.

These are the lessons notes for this article.
